چکیده

∞ ν=0 aν for special functions are constructed by solving a system of linear equations. The linear equations follow from an approximative solution of the inhomogeneous difference equation ∆rn = an+1. In the case of the remainder of the Dirichlet series for the Riemann zeta function, the linear equations can be solved in closed form, reproducing the corresponding Euler-Maclaurin formula. In the case of the other series considered – the Gaussian hypergeometric series 2F1(a, b; c; z) and the divergent asymptotic inverse power series for the exponential integral E1(z) – the corresponding linear equations are solved symbolically with the help of Maple. The practical usefulness of the new formalism is demonstrated by some numerical examples.

Asymptotic Behaviors of Nearest Neighbor Kernel Density Estimator in Left-truncated Data

Kernel density estimators are the basic tools for density estimation in non-parametric statistics.  The k-nearest neighbor kernel estimators represent a special form of kernel density estimators, in  which  the  bandwidth  is varied depending on the location of the sample points. In this paper‎, we  initially introduce the k-nearest neighbor kernel density estimator in the random left-truncatio...

An Introduction to Affine Arithmetic

Affine arithmetic (AA) is a model for self-validated computation which, like standard interval arithmetic (IA), produces guaranteed enclosures for computed quantities, taking into account any uncertainties in the input data as well as all internal truncation and roundoff errors. Unlike standard IA, the quantity representations used by AA are first-order approximations, whose error is generally ...

Useful Results for Computing the Nuttall${-}Q$ and Incomplete Toronto Special Functions

This work is devoted to the derivation of novel analytic results for special functions which are particularly useful in wireless communication theory. Capitalizing on recently reported series representations for the Nuttall Q−function and the incomplete Toronto function, we derive closed-form upper bounds for the corresponding truncation error of these series as well as closed-form upper bounds...

Truncation Errors in Padé Approximations to Certain Functions: An Alternative Approach

1. Introduction. The problem of finding rational approximations to functions has received a considerable amount of attention recently, and many methods exist for finding such approximations. A brief survey of the most widely used methods has been given by Cheney and Southard [1]. In all problems of approximation, it is essential to know the truncation error which arises when the function is rep...

Infinite-series Representations of Laplace Transforms of Probability Density Functions for Numerical Inversion

In order to numerically invert Laplace transforms to calculate probability density functions (pdf’s) and cumulative distribution functions (cdf’s) in queueing and related models, we need to be able to calculate the Laplace transform values. In many cases the desired Laplace transform values (e.g., of a waiting-time cdf) can be computed when the Laplace transform values of component pdf’s (e.g.,...
